Shoreditch

Introduction
Shoreditch is an area of London within the London Borough of Hackney. It is a built-up part of the inner city immediately to the north of the City of London, located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east north east of Charing Cross.

History

The historic heart of Shoreditch is Shoreditch High Street and Shoreditch Church. In the past the area of Shoreditch was defined by the borders of the parish of Shoreditch which later defined the borders of the Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch. Contemporary Shoreditch is often seen as the area bordered to the north by Old Street, to the east by the northern end of Brick Lane, to the south by Old Spitalfields market and to the west by Old Street Station. However, Hoxton to the north of Old Street was historically part of Shoreditch parish.
Today..
Shoreditch has, since around 1996, become a popular and fashionable part of London. Often conflated with neighboring Hoxton, the area has been subject to considerable gentrification in the past twenty years, with accompanying rises in property prices.

Light Box Alley:

My research focused on light boxes and graffiti. I also looked into building structures for research which were mostly minimalist in design, had the use of glass, lights and less material usage as I wanted to keep my hub white so the emphasis could be created on light boxes and graffiti.

What
A cultural diversity Art gallery space

Who
It is designed for the up coming artists, exhibitors who work within promoting work about cultural diversity and international artists. Welcome to everyone from any community. It is an idea to be affiliated with other growing galleries around the area, for example Iniva. The idea is to have it associated with Iniva gallery as a place for the early arising artist who wish to exhibit their work

Why
It is mainly designed as a gallery to help artists create awareness of their work, to give them opportunity, it is for exhibitors to bring together work from various art and cultural backgrounds so it could create awareness and unity between cultures/communities and create a ‘hub’ of harmony for everyone around the area.

How
The design basically very open and simple so it could be well used to exhibit work around the space, it also has messages in various languages portraying harmony to bring together cultures and communities around the area. The light box theme along with playing with colors portrays the brightness and colors in everyone's life.

Where
It is located within an alley in brick lane which was actually a big space but just worn out so I thought it would be interesting to re create it. It is a central space as fashion street, petticoat market, and commercial street is just a couple minutes walk away. Its is going to be a funded project under Iniva and have a board of trustees to run in from around the area, who know the place well, come from various diversity groups and have knowledge of art and culture.
